These works are from my exhibition “A conversation about around pictures” that opened as the lockdown began in Los Angeles - so it’s been put on indefinite hold. Limbo. My work has taken for granted a kind of intimacy that requires touch and proximity and plays with willful visibility or obfuscation, both available to many contemporary queer subjects. Not all but some. As to how this response to “how can you think of art in a time like this”? I don’t have an answer other than that I am not in my studio, I am working (teaching) from home, spending time with my partner and doing tasks around the house. Taking this health situation seriously matters because I want to re-emerge in a world where touch and intimacy amongst the widest spectrum of encounters is again possible.
